I’ve recently been promoted and am over the moon as I’ve been working long hours and more intensively than I ever have before. The time and energy put in has finally paid off. With the economy making it difficult for graduates to get a job I feel incredibly fortunate to have a job let alone a career. The promotion was not something that I could have achieved on my own and it was with the help of the great bloggers that I follow religiously and of course with the support of my line manager. With a combination of my experience and the great tips I took from others I’ve compiled a list of must-do’s to ensure steady, career progression and that all important promotion.  View full article »

One month has passed since I moved back to Central London. I can’t believe how quickly time has gone by but I am over the moon with my new flat. I’m closer to work, I have more time either side of working hours and I’m able to go on big nights out with friends. Reducing the amount of time by not having a big commute means I can spend more time doing the things I enjoy. View full article »

The tuition fees dispute has taken a backseat in recent news due to the Royal Wedding and Osama Bin Laden. It’s still a key issue though Jill McDonald boldly stated in the Evening Standard: Why go to university when you can learn on the job? It reached the front page and will no doubt fuel the argument that university isn’t worth it. View full article »

It’s been almost eight months since I started my first full-time job after graduation. I’ve been lucky to have received so many opportunities from my employer and I’ve taken full advantage of these. From before I started my job until now I have been collecting and reflecting upon a number of articles related to work. These mark key milestone in my first year of work. I’m continuing to strive to do well at work and ensure that I fully appreciate what my company does for me. View full article »

It’s almost a year since I was taking my oral exam for my German degree. It still seems like only yesterday that I was sitting my final year exams. That was my main worry last year. Passing with a good degree was all I needed to worry about. However, this may not be the case for final year students this year.  View full article »

This week marks an important milestone in my career. My First Big Mistake. So, after seven months of ups and downs, stresses and celebrations – I have finally made the first big mistake which had major repercussions. You might be wondering what that mistake is and I’m still grappling with the issues myself. I keep replaying the events over and over in my head. It’s frustrating because I keep thinking of ways in which this could have been avoided. View full article »

When I first started this blog I had great things in mind. I started off posting every week day. Then when I started working full-time I wrote 3 articles a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday). Then I became a bit more confident and decided to add a weekly round-up of the best articles I was reading (notice the past tense). View full article »

The idea is to encourage these women to become independent and come off of benefits or to stop relying on sources of income that they have not earned themselves. View full article »

Recently, I read an article with the above title written by John Straw, Founder and CEO of Linkdex. He wrote a short column in City AM describing his recent fears. He writes, “What worries me – no, terrifies me – is the way we have, in the last 12 years, managed to reduce the assault rifle-like competitive edge in our graduates to the effectiveness of a flintlock muzzle loader.”  This article struck a chord with me.
